The creasy new Hyundai Verna which was spotted in China in July this year, has now gone on sale with prices starting at 72,800 RMB (Rs 7.32 lakh or USD 10,350). Despite heavy creases on the front and rear fascias, the new Verna looks more sophisticated than ever before.
Design highlights include a new 3D grille, new headlamps, new 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, and new, connected taillamps. The side profile is largely retained. The electric sunroof is standard on the top-end variant.
Highlights of the fresh interiors include a 12.3-inch LCD instrument display, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Baidu CarLife, auto AC, wireless smartphone charging, driver seat height adjustment, and adjustable rear headrests.
Safety equipment includes front & side airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, Vehicle Stability Control, TPMS, and rear parking sensors. Buyers can go for an active safety package that includes front collision warning with braking system, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and driver fatigue warning.
As for the dimensions, the new Verna measures 4,405 mm in length, 1,720 mm in width and 1,455 mm in height. Wheelbase measures 2,600 mm. Luggage space is rated at 485 litres.
Powering the new Verna in China is a 1.4-litre (1,368 cc) naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 73.3 kW (100 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 132 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Transmission is a 6-speed manual or a CVT. The new Verna is a mild-hybrid, meaning, there’s an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) for functions such as auto start/stop and brake energy recuperation.
