Our metropolitan cities are expected to get so congested in the future that the rich folks might simply use “personal air mobility” to get around. And when it happens, everyone wants a piece of that, naturally. Including Uber, Aston Martin, and Google’s Larry Page too.
After its cousin Audi testing a flying taxi concept in Amsterdam, Porsche doesn’t want to limit itself to building sports cars and electric cars either. Which is why the company has teamed up with Boeing “to explore the premium urban air mobility market”. Boeing, Porsche and Aurora Flight Sciences, a subsidiary of Boeing, are developing an electric aircraft (concept) with vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capabilities.
Porsche subsidiaries Porsche Engineering Services and Studio F.A. Porsche are also involved in the development, with the latter designing the prototype.

Boeing has formed the ‘NeXt’ division for prototyping activities that includes autonomous aircrafts. “This collaboration builds on our efforts to develop a safe and efficient new mobility ecosystem, and provides an opportunity to investigate the development of a premium urban air mobility vehicle with a leading automotive brand,” said Steve Nordlund, Vice President and General Manager, Boeing NeXt.
Porsche expects the urban air mobility market to pick up speed after 2025.
