The 5th generation Audi A6 which debuted as a mild-hybrid, has now got a plug-in hybrid sibling. The new A6 55 TFSI e quattro is the latest one to get the TFSI e badging after the new A8 L. The A6 PHEV is available to order in Germany, with a base price of €68,850.
A 2.0 4-cylinder TFSI petrol engine is combined with an electric motor, which is integrated into the 7-speed S tronic transmission. The petrol engine produces 185 kW (252 hp) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque, while the electric motor has a peak output of 105 kW (143 hp). The combined system output, however, is 270 kW (367 hp) and a maximum system torque of 500 Nm (368.8 lb-ft) is available at 1,250 rpm.
The 14.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack is claimed to offer up to 53 km (32.9 mi) of pure electric range as per WLTP standards. The PHEV is claimed to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 5.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 250 km/h (155.3 mph). On pure electric power alone, it reaches a top speed of 135 km/h (83.9 mph), Audi said.
The A6 55 TFSI e quattro can be charged at public charging stations up to an output of 7.4 kW using the supplied mode 3 cable. It apparently takes about two and a half hours to recharge an empty battery.
In Hybrid mode, the predictive operating strategy ensures maximum efficiency and the maximum possible electric driving range. It uses various information including from the navigation, live traffic, the driver’s style and the vehicle sensors such as the camera and radar.
Visually, the A6 55 TFSI e quattro has a sporty character. The S line exterior package, the black styling package, black exterior mirror housings, and privacy glazing add to those looks. Features include Matrix LED headlights, sport seats, four-zone automatic air conditioning, Audi virtual cockpit, sport suspension, 19-inch wheels, and red brake calipers.
