Remember Gogoro Smartscooters with swappable batteries? Well, Yamaha has launched the EC-05 in Taiwan, based on one of the aforementioned e-scooters, priced at NT$99,800 or Rs 2.27 lakh or US$3,187.
Yamaha and Gogoro started working together in September 2018 to develop Yamaha-branded EVs for Taiwanese market, and the EC-05 is the first product from the collaboration. While the design language looks similar to Gogoro’s current e-scooter lineup, there are some notable changes by Yamaha’s styling team in Japan to differentiate. The EC-05 will be manufactured by Gogoro in Taiwan.
The EC-05 will be able to use more than 1,200 battery-swapping stations installed in Taiwan by Gogoro Energy Network. As for technical specs, the EC-05’s electric motor offers 10 hp at 3000 rpm and 26 Nm of torque available from 0 – 2500 rpm, which is claimed to accelerate the e-scooter from 0 – 50 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Top speed is 90 km/h.
Features include smartphone locking/unlocking, LED lighting, digital instrumentation, Bluetooth connectivity, adjustable suspension, and front and rear disc brakes. More information here.
E-Vino
Besides the EC-05, Yamaha also offers E-Vino scooter in Taiwan since December 2014, which has a removable 50-volt lithium-ion battery system that offers a range of 30 km. However, it is important to note that the E-Vino was not developed with Gogoro.
