Nissan has updated the 5th generation Serena minivan and is now on sale in Japan with prices starting at ¥2,399,760. The MPV is also sold in Indonesia and Malaysian markets since its 4th generation.
The new Serena debuts adaptive LED headlight system, which utilizes a forward-facing camera to individually deactivate each of the 12 LEDs in the headlight unit, reducing glare for other road users. Other features include 16-inch aluminum wheels for e-Power models and an extended V-motion grille for Highway Star models.
There are two new exterior colors – Sunrise Orange and Dark Metal Gray; both can be optioned with a Diamond Black roof.
The interiors receive a new dashboard, new seat fabric, optional waterproof seat covers, and a navigation system measuring up to 10-inches. Other features include hands-free auto sliding doors that open by waving the foot under the side door. Standard safety technologies include Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention and Blind Spot Warning, as well as Rear Cross Traffic Alert that senses approaching vehicles from the left or right when reversing.
There’s also something called Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication which prevents accidents caused by applying the wrong pedal. Another feature is ProPilot that helps reduce driver fatigue and stress. On inclined surfaces, the system can maintain the driver’s set speed and balance powertrain output when returning to flatter road surfaces.
Nissan continues to offer the Serena in two-wheel- and four-wheel-drive configurations. Gasoline-powered models come equipped with either the existing 150 hp 2.0-litre MR20DD engine; or the MR20DD-SM24 powertrain for S-Hybrid models; the latter is a mild-hybrid that gets an electric motor with an output of 2.6 hp and 48 Nm. Transmission is a CVT.
An HR12DE-EM57 e-Power variant (range extender), which includes a 1.2-litre gasoline engine that charges a battery pack, is also available for 7-passenger models. The electric motor produces 136 hp and 320 Nm of torque. More here.
