Ford’s first electric vehicle for the Chinese market, the Territory, is ready to go on sale in the country with prices starting at ¥182,800 (INR 18.35 lakh or US$ 26,300), after Government subsidy.
This is an all-electric version of the gasoline-powered Territory SUV which was revealed for China last year, which is essentially a rebadged version of Yusheng S330 made by Ford’s Chinese partner JMC. Compared to the ICE-powered Territory, the Territory EV has some subtle design changes including a redesigned grille, front bumper, taillights, and of course, the rear bumper without a diffuser-like insert and tailpipes.
The interiors look jazzy and contemporary with lots of lines, curves, swooshes and premium-looking materials. However, the layout and multiple tones might look busy for some. Available in ‘Trend’ and ‘Titanium’ trims, the feature list includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system housed inside a glossy panel, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, 8-speaker audio system, 10-way electrically adjustable driver seat, and safety and assistance systems such as AEB, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning. The centre console design with toggle-like switches might remind you of some German and Italian cars.
The Territory EV is powered by a single electric motor at the front, offering an output of 163 metric hp (120 kW) and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) of torque. A 60.4 kWh battery pack is claimed to offer a range of up to 435 km (270 mi) as per NEDC. With DC fast charging, the battery pack is claimed to take about 32 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%.
