Mercedes-Benz is expanding its Coupe-SUV offerings with the new GLE Coupe and Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4Matic+ Coupe. These are, of course, the Coupe variants of the 4th generation GLE and its AMG sibling, the GLE 53 4Matic+.
The new GLE Coupe is 4,939 mm long and 2,010 mm wide (39 mm longer and 7 mm wider than its predecessor). The wheelbase has grown by 20 mm compared with its predecessor, but remains 60 mm shorter than that of the GLE.
Exterior equipment includes full-LED headlamps, wheels up to 22-inches, AMG-specific radiator grille and a special AMG exhaust system with two round twin tailpipe trims in high-gloss chrome on the GLE 53.

Interiors are familiar too with features including MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system, Artico man-made leather upholstery, and few more leather options. According to Mercedes, the capacity of the storage spaces in the interior has been increased to a total of 40 litres.
The boot space offers 655 litres, which can be expanded to 1,790 litres – 70 litres more than in the predecessor. The rear seats fold in 40:20:40 ratio. Mercedes says that the loading sill is around 60 mm better than the previous model, and when equipped with the Airmatic air suspension system, the tail end can be lowered a further 50 mm at the press of a button.
The GLE 53 gets the typical AMG flair with AMG seats, red contrast stitching, 3-spoke AMG steering wheel with aluminium shift paddles, AMG brushed stainless steel sports pedals, and trim elements in carbon fibre.
This variant also gets the AMG Ride Control+ air suspension, and high-performance braking system with 400 mm front discs with 2-piston fixed calipers and 345 mm rear discs gripped by 1-piston floating calipers.
The GLE Coupe is powered by a 2.9-litre OM 656 in-line 6-cylinder turbo diesel engine with two states of tune. In 350 d 4Matic, it puts out 272 hp and 600 Nm, while in 400 d 4Matic, the output is 330 hp and 700 Nm of torque.
The GLE 53 4Matic+ Coupe is powered by a 3.0-litre (2,999 cc) in-line 6-cylinder twin-turbo petrol engine with EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology. The combustion engine develops 320 kW (435 metric hp) at 6,100 rpm and 520 Nm of torque at 1,800 – 5,800 rpm. The EQ Boost gets another 22 hp and 250 Nm of torque.
0 – 100 km/h acceleration is claimed to happen in 5.3 seconds and the top speed is limited to 250 km/h. The AMG Speedshift 9-speed automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels via 4Matic+ fully-variable AWD system.
The optional AMG Performance exhaust system with exhaust flaps can vary the sound between discreet and emotive, depending on the drive program.
