Despite their practicality concerns, the Coupe-SUVs are all about pretty looks, which is why every “normal body” SUV seems to be getting a coupe variant these days. If pretty looks can rack up the sales, why not have one? The latest one to ask that question is this Audi Q3 Sportback.

The obvious design change is, of course, that sloping roofline with an integrated roof spoiler, which together with the coupe-like passenger window line, make the Q3 Sportback appear much longer than its regular Q3 sibling. In addition, the Sportback is almost 3 cm flatter, and thus lends a more muscular appearance, Audi said.

At launch, there’ll be an edition model in two designs and depending on their paint finishes, they are called “edition one dew silver” and “edition one mythos black”. In both models, the exterior is based on the S line and the black styling package. Dark decorative panels in the matrix LED headlights and 20-inch wheels make for an even sportier look.

Inside, the Q3 Sportback features the same amount of technology as the regular Q3. These include 10.25-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit, 10.1-inch MMI navigation plus display, Audi connect online services, cloud-based Amazon Alexa voice service, and Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with virtual 3D sound.

Depending on the equipment, the Q3 Sportback gets sport seats with contrasting stitching and colored stripes along the side panels.

Options list includes 12.3-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus, ambient lighting package with 30 selectable colors, sliding roof, front seats with electric adjustability and heating, and electric tailgate.

The rear seats can be moved 130 mm (5.1 in) longitudinally as standard; their backrests are divided into 3 sections, and their inclination can be adjusted in 7 stages, Audi said.

More options include suspension with damper control, hill descent control, and adaptive cruise assist. Standard safety and assistance systems include lane departure warning, lane change warning, and Audi pre sense front which issues a visual, acoustic, and haptic warning if a head-on collision is imminent.

At launch in Europe, the Q3 Sportback will be available in 45 TFSI quattro (2.0L, 230 hp), and 35 TDI (2.0L, 150 hp) variants, paired to a 7-speed S tronic automatic transmission. These engines will be joined by a more powerful diesel and an entry-level gasoline engine, which works together with a 48 V mild-hybrid system. A manual transmission with quattro drive will be available at a later date. The Audi drive select’s 6 profiles include an offroad mode.

The Q3 Sportback is 4.50 m (14.8 ft) long, 1.84 m (6.0 ft) wide and 1.56 m (5.1 ft) high; its wheelbase measures 2.68 m (8.8 ft). The volume of the luggage compartment ranges from 530 l (18.7 cu ft) to 1,400 l (49.4 cu ft). The loading floor can be adjusted to two levels, and the rear shelf can be stored beneath it.

Deliveries in Europe will start this fall. In Germany, the price for the 35 TDI S tronic is €40,200, while the 45 TFSI quattro S tronic starts at €46,200.
