Mitsubishi has globally revealed the updated Pajero Sport in Thailand, and is now on sale as well with prices starting at 1,299,000 Baht or Rs 29,00,000 or USD 42,000.
Compared to the outgoing model, the exterior design changes are mainly on the face with redesigned headlamps, grille, bumper with skid plate, and fog lamp housing. The signature Dynamic Shield is much more sharper. The side profile remains largely unchanged, while the rear-end has a new bumper and redesigned taillamps.
Bi-LED headlamps with auto-leveling system, integrated LED DRLs, LED cornering lamps, LED front fog lamps, LED taillights, and 18-inch alloy wheels are some of the exterior features.
The interior layout too has received a subtle yet substantial-looking update with better materials and soft padded centre console and door handles. Features include 8.0-inch color LCD Multi-Information Display with 3 selectable modes, Apple CarPlay, all four automatic power windows with jam protection, storage space underneath centre console, dual-zone auto AC with nanoe technology for clean air, 12.1-inch rear entertainment system, multiple USB ports, HDMI port, and a 220V AC outlet. Mitsubishi is offering telematics feature as well where certain features can be controlled remotely via an app, including locking the doors and opening/closing of the tailgate. The tailgate system can be preset by a smartphone, which enables the driver to open or close the tailgate automatically when he/she approaches or leaves the vehicle; effective within Bluetooth operating range.
Safety features include 7 airbags, Adaptive Cruise Control, Active Stability and Traction Control (ASTC), Blind Spot Warning, Lane Change Assist (LCA), Forward Collision Mitigation System, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). The SUV also gets Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System (UMS) that will cut off engine power temporarily if the accelerator is depressed suddenly; the system uses ultrasonic waves to scan four meters ahead and back.
Powering the updated Pajero Sport is a 2.4L 4-cylinder MIVEC turbo diesel engine with 181 hp at 3500 rpm and 430 Nm of torque at 2500 rpm, paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The SUV retains the Super-Select 4WD-II system with 2H (2WD High-Range), 4H (4WD High-Range), 4HLc (4WD High-Range with Locked Transfer), and 4LLc (4WD Low-Range with Locked Transfer) modes. The latter is for rocks, mud, sand and deep snow surface.
Currently produced at Laem Chabang plant in Thailand, the new Pajero Sport will eventually be sold in 90 countries including the Philippines and Australia.
