TVS Motor has launched ethanol-powered Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 – claimed to be India’s first – at Rs 1,20,000, ex-showroom. This is the production version of a concept that was showcased at the Auto Expo 2018.
The bike features green graphics with Ethanol logo, over white paintwork. Other features include Bosch Fuel Injection system, race-tuned KYB monoshock suspension, double-barrel exhaust with a unique exhaust note, and optional race-spec Pirelli tyres. The TVS Motor-patented Double Cradle Split Synchro Stiff Chassis is claimed to give an optimized vehicle layout and increase stability by 25%.
The Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 is powered by a 197.75 cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine that develops 15.46 kW (21 hp) at 8500 rpm and 18.1 Nm of torque at 7000 rpm, paired to a 5-speed gearbox. A patented Oil-Cooled Combustion Chamber (O3C) Technology with ram-air assist is claimed to reduce engine heat map by 10⁰C.
Ethanol is domestically produced from renewable plant sources. It is non-toxic, biodegradable, as well as safe to handle, store and transport. An oxygenated fuel that contains 35% oxygen, Ethanol reduces nitrogen oxide emissions from combustion. Apart from this, Ethanol also helps reduce carbon monoxide emissions, particulate matter and sulphur-di-oxide.
The bike also features A-RT (Anti-Reverse Torque) Slipper Clutch Technology with 22% reduction in clutch force for quicker upshifts.
The Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 will be sold as a special edition in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka states.
