The X7 made its global debut in October 2018 with the largest-ever kidney grille that to this day, is a hot content for meme pages on social media. Depending on the trim and available options, features include the Laser Light technology, BMW Live Cockpit Professional, wireless smartphone charging, wireless Apple CarPlay, five-zone climate control, Sky Lounge Panoramic glass sunroof, Rear-seat Entertainment Professional, 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system, adaptive 2-axle air suspension, and a host of driver assistance and safety technologies. Cargo capacity ranges from 326 litres to 2,120 litres. Read more about the X7 here.
Powering the X7 in India is a 3.0-litre (2,998 cc) in-line 6-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 340 hp and a maximum torque of 450 Nm. There’s also a 3.0-litre in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine on offer, which produces an output of 265 hp and a maximum torque of 620 Nm. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. Electronic aids include Automatic Differential Brakes/Locks (ADB-X), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control.
The second flagship is, of course, the new 7 Series that made its global debut earlier this year with the same polarizingly large kidney grille. This one too gets more or less the same amount of features as the X7, including the Live Cockpit Professional, Rear-seat Entertainment Professional, adaptive 2-axle air suspension, Harman Kardon Surround Sound system, and safety technologies including 6 airbags.
The M760Li xDrive is powered by a massive 6.6-litre V12 that produces 448 kW (610 hp) and a maximum torque of 850 Nm. As for the plug-in hybrid variant, the 745Le xDrive is powered by a 3.0-litre inline-6 petrol engine with an output of 286 hp and 450 Nm of torque, and an electric motor that produces 83 kW (113 hp) and 265 Nm of torque. Together, the two units deliver a total of 394 hp and maximum torque of 600 Nm; claimed to deliver a fuel-efficiency of up to 39.5 km/l.
Using a conventional 220 V socket, the lithium-ion battery pack takes 8 – 12 hours to charge, while the BMW wallbox charger can apparently do the job in 4 – 5 hours.
