Meaning, the R8 LMS GT2 packs more power than the road going R8. Visually, it might look more or less the same as the R8 LMS GT3 that we saw last year.
The race car has been built as per SRO (Stéphane Ratel Organisation) GT2 regulations. The bodywork is Audi Space Frame (ASF) featuring an aluminum-CFRP hybrid design with a steel roll cage, and CFRP and aluminum aero components. There’s a rescue hatch in the roof for safety.
Suspension duties are carried over by double wishbones front and rear, struts with coil springs and adjustable dampers, plus adjustable stabilizers front and rear. The steel brake discs measure 380 x 34 mm at front and 350 x 32 mm at the rear, with racing ABS. The car rides on 18-inch forged aluminum rims.
Equipment includes FIA-standard fire extinguishing system, height- and length-adjustable safety steering column, quick-adjustable foot pedals mounted on rails, and Audi Protection Seat PS 3.
The 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 produces 470 kW (640 hp) and over 550 Nm of torque, paired to an S tronic 7-speed double-clutch transmission with paddle shifters. Power is sent to the rear wheels. The car also gets a mechanical limited-slip differential. Dry weight is 1,350 kg if you’re interested to know that as well.
The most powerful version of the R8 LMS will be available for customer teams, with a price tag of €338,000. Deliveries will begin in December.
