There comes a time when you wish you had a little bit more ground clearance on your hatchback, but a crossover SUV is not exactly in your mind. Here in India, you’ve few options such as Urban Cross and Ford Freestyle. Audi wants to try such a variant with this A1 citycarver that will arrive at European dealerships in fall 2019.
Compared to the A1 Sportback, the citycarver has two nostrils above the grille instead of three. As for the grille, it is in octagonal shape instead of a hexagon, and the strongly sculpted honeycomb pattern is painted black. The bumper has underbody protection too, also known as skid plate.
Citycarver gets S line roof edge spoiler
The redesigned rear bumper echoes the look of the front end. The side profile has wheel arch inserts and redesigned side sills with add-on parts in a contrasting color. The citycarver gets 4 cm (2.0 in) of additional ground clearance and the car rides on 16-inch wheels.
The color palette for the A1 citycarver includes 9 exterior colors, with a contrast roof in either Mythos black metallic or Manhattan gray metallic. The black styling package bathes the attachments in the lower section of the body in deep black, which otherwise would come standard in shades of gray and a stainless steel paint finish.
For the interiors, there are 3 equipment lines to choose from – advanced, design selection and S line. The S line offers the choice between seat covers in cloth/synthetic leather or Alcantara/synthetic leather. The design selection includes the contour/ambient lighting package. The vents, center console and the doors sport accents in mint, copper, orange or silver-gray. The S line also offers structured gray as a color.
A fully digital instrument cluster comes as standard and so is Audi pre sense front (pedestrian and cyclist detection) and lane departure warning. Other features on offer include MMI navigation plus, and 560-watt Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium Sound System.
Buyers can go for the optional Dynamic package. It includes discs with red calipers, Audi drive select dynamic handling system, a sound actuator, and suspension with adjustable dampers. Audi drive select, which offers 4 modes – auto, dynamic, efficiency and individual – is also available separately. Audi also offers wheels up to 18 inches with the dynamic package.
The A1 citycarver is offered with the same set of powertrains as the A1 Sportback. In case you’re wondering, there’s no AWD option.
