Lotus has unveiled the 2020 Evora GT for North American market, replacing the Evora Sport 410 and Evora 400. The car gets lightweight components and additional downforce.
Speaking of which, Lotus says that the Evora GT generates up to 64 kg of downforce (double that of the Evora 400) making it the new benchmark when compared to similarly priced rivals. The additional downforce is created by the efficient management of airflow under and over the car.
The front lip, mounted beneath the lightweight composite mesh grille, reduces undercar airflow, while the front wheel arch louvres and carbon fibre ducts behind each rear wheel vent high-pressure air from the wheel arches. In addition, the rear diffuser contributes to the increased downforce front and rear.
Standard carbon composite components include the rear bumper, curved A-panels, rear wheel ducts and sill covers. The optional $10,000 Carbon Pack includes the front access panel (hood), roof panel, one-piece louvred tailgate with integrated spoiler and diffuser surround, all in carbon fibre contributing to 49 lbs (22 kg) of weight savings.
The car rides on lightweight, machined, forged aluminium wheels measuring 19-inch at front and 20-inch at the rear, available in either High Power silver or gloss black as standard. The wheels are shod with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres measuring 245/35 at front and 295/30 at the rear.
Stopping power comes courtesy of AP Racing 4-piston calipers front and rear with lightweight 2-piece cross-drilled and ventilated brake discs (front 370 mm x 32 mm, rear 350 mm x 32 mm).
A sports suspension package comprising of Eibach ultra-light, low-sideload springs and Bilstein sports dampers are fitted as standard. Further mass reduction comes from the optional $8,000 titanium exhaust which shaves off 10 kg.
With all the lightweight options fitted, mass is further reduced to 3,104 lbs (1,408 kg). This gives a total weight saving of 71 lbs (32 kg) when compared to the Evora 400, Lotus said.
Inside, the dashboard, door panels, transmission tunnel and the centre console are all trimmed in black Alcantara, complemented by contrast twin colour stitching. Buyers can go for a bespoke leather option. The lightweight magnesium steering wheel is clad in leather and Alcantara, the instrument binnacle cover is carbon fibre, as are the backs of the Sparco race seats. An integrated 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with AppleCarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, satellite navigation and reversing camera are also standard.
Powering the Evora GT is a 3.5-litre Supercharged V6, producing 416 bhp at 7000 rpm and 317 lb-ft (430 Nm) of torque from 3500 rpm. The engine is paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The latter offers 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. With the manual, the Evora GT is claimed to do a 0-60 mph (96.5 km/h) sprint in 3.8 seconds while the automatic needs 0.1 seconds more. Top speed with manual and automatic is 188 mph (303 km/h) and 174 mph (280 km/h), respectively.
The car also gets a Torsen limited-slip differential (LSD), and four driver selectable ESP modes – Drive, Sport, Race and Off.
Available to order in US and Canada, priced at USD 96,950.
