Toyota and Subaru to Jointly Develop electric SUV

Toyota and Subaru have teamed-up again, this time to co-develop a new platform dedicated to electric vehicles for midsize and large passenger vehicle segment, and also to co-develop a C-segment electric SUV to be sold under respective brands.

The duo’s business collaboration dates back to 2005. The Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ is one of the previous joint efforts and the most recent one is the Crosstrek plug-in hybrid, which applies Toyota’s HEV technologies.

As for the new BEV-dedicated platform, the companies said that it’ll be applicable to multiple vehicle types, including C-segment and D-segment sedans and SUVs, as well as to develop derivative models.
