When it comes to Multi Purpose Vehicles, the ones that flash in our minds are the likes of Innova, Alphard, or a V-Class. But the “MPVs” can also be something like an S60 Cross Country – a jacked-up, multi-purpose family sedan in which you can change your mind on the way to a dinner party and go on an adventure instead and still be totally fine.

But what if you could do that in a supercar? The purpose of a supercar is to drive it on roads or on a track, but what if you could change your mind and go off-road instead, and not miss that 4WD SUV you have in your garage back home? Well, that’s probably how the Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato concept was imagined.

The Huracán Sterrato is based on the Huracan EVO that we saw earlier this year. While the Sterrato looks like some famous tuner’s modification project, it is in fact, an official concept from Lamborghini. Those wheel arch claddings house 20-inch wheels shod with high profile Balloon tires. Ground clearance is up by 47 mm, with the car’s front approach sharpened by 1% and the departure angle enhanced by 6.5%. Notice a front skid plate as well.

An off-road LED light package comprising of a roof-mounted LED light bar and LED bumper lights with flood function tells us that this is a multi-purpose supercar.

The Sterrato is fitted with underbody reinforcements and protection, including a rear skid plate that also acts as a diffuser. Special protective composite bodywork includes stone-deflecting protection around the engine and air intakes, and mudguards in hybrid materials of carbon fiber and elastomeric resin. Aluminum-reinforced side skirts are part of the off-road protection too.

The interior features a titanium roll cage, four-point seatbelts on the new carbon bi-shell sports seats, and aluminum floor panels. The EVO’s 5.2-litre naturally aspirated motor powers the Sterrato too, with the same output of 640 hp. Lamborghini says that the EVO’s LDVI (Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata) with predictive logic, controls the Sterrato’s systems including four-wheel-drive, four-wheel steering, modified suspension and torque vectoring, anticipating the next moves of the driver to ensure perfect driving dynamics.

The LDVI system is calibrated for off-road driving including low-adherence surfaces and tuned to maximize traction and acceleration. The system provides enhanced rear-wheel drive behavior and additional stabilization in oversteering maneuvers, Lamborghini said.

The Huracán Sterrato illustrates Lamborghini’s commitment to being a future shaper: a super sports car with off-road capabilities, the Sterrato demonstrates the Huracán’s versatility and opens the door to yet another benchmark of driving emotion and performance – Maurizio Reggiani, Chief Technical Officer of Automobili Lamborghini

Lamborghini’s R&D and design teams are constantly exploring new opportunities and delivering the unexpected as a core characteristic of our DNA, challenging possibilities while inspired by Lamborghini brand heritage – Reggiani

While we were told that the Huracán Sterrato was a “top secret” project, rumors of an “off-road Huracan” dates back to 2017. No official word if there’ll ever be a production version of this concept. Lamborghini just said –

The Sterrato draws on Lamborghini’s off-road expertise exemplified in the Urus Super SUV, creating a new dimension of Lamborghini ‘fun to drive off-road’: a transfer of technologies creating a super sports car for challenging environments

The Huracán Sterrato appears to be targetted at those who appreciate the madness the Lamborghinis are all about. There’s no room for rational questions here. It’s not a Lamborghini if there’s no madness, is it?
