One of the very impressive EV startups NIO showcased a sedan at its home event, the Auto Shanghai 2019. The ‘ET Preview’ is the first one among the ET Sedan Series that NIO is planning.
The face is instantly recognizable as a NIO with its narrow headlamps and X themed design language. However, the best angles to look at this vehicle is probably the side profile and the rear-three quarters which kinda reminds you of something from Germany.
A Coupe-like sloping roofline and the aerodynamic wheels draw most of the attention. Not much (technical) information on the Sedan is available at the moment. According to NIO, the ET Preview represents the company’s “exploration of an all-new car body, whose sleek new contours combine elegant proportions with power and beauty through a minimalistic design”.
NIO also showcased its high-performance electric mobility platform which combines a high-energy density NCM811 nickel-cobalt-manganese battery pack with permanent magnet motors at the front and induction motors at the rear. It can achieve an NEDC cruising range of up to 510 km (316 mi), apparently.
We can also see 160 kW, 240 kW and 220 kW motors being displayed. Also notice a carbon fibre encased battery pack.
Around 60 NIO car owners volunteered as Fellows during Auto Shanghai 2019. As Fellows, they presented NIO’s products and services, and shared their experiences as NIO customers with visitors to the auto show.
