Just in case if you’re dreaming about a crazy project car that requires an equally crazy engine, Mopar is here to help you. The FCA-owned MOtor PARts maker is taking pre-orders for a 1000 hp “Hellephant” 426 Supercharged HEMI engine and installation kit.
The 426 also represents the HEMI day, an annual celebration of all things HEMI, held on April 26 (4/26) in recognition of the historic 426 HEMI engine that debuted more than 50 years ago; it was also called elephant engine for its power and size. The Hellephant is a nod to the brand’s past and the modern-day, 707 hp Hellcrate engine, revealed at the 2017 SEMA Show.
The 7.0-litre V8 Supercharged Hellephant develops 1000 hp and 950 lb.-ft. (1288 Nm) of torque. The bore and stroke is 4.125 inches and 4.0 inches, respectively. A supercharger with a high-efficiency rotor set is mounted on an all-aluminium block.
The complete engine assembly includes a water pump, flywheel, front sump oil pan, supercharger with throttle body, fuel injectors and coil packs. The engine assembly and kit are designed for installation on pre-1976 street and off-road vehicles, FCA said.
The plug-and-play kit includes a powertrain control module (PCM), power distribution center, engine wiring harness, chassis harness, accelerator pedal, ground jumper, oxygen sensors, charge air temperature sensors, fuel pump control module and CAN bus interface device.
The kit ships in a unique packaging, featuring the Hellephant logo and includes in-depth information sheets with helpful installation tips and requirements, the company said.
The engine will carry an MSRP of $29,995 and the plug-and-play kit is priced at $2,265. Pre-ordering information is available here.
