Vietnam’s new automobile brand VinFast had commissioned Italdesign Giugiaro, Pininfarina, Torino Design and Zagato to design a Sedan and an SUV, and put all 20 designs on its website and asked the Vietnamese customers to vote on the designs they liked the most.
Over 60,000 Vietnamese fell in love with the Pininfarina. The LUX A2.0 Sedan and LUX SA2.0 SUV were showcased at the 2018 Paris Motor Show in October. Notice the asymmetric ‘VF’ motif incorporated in the front grille and also at the rear which flows into the lamps.
Although the design looks very futuristic, the vehicles aren’t electric. Both models will be powered by a 2.0L in-line 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine developed by AVL. It’ll be available in two power outputs—130 kW (174 bhp) and 170 kW (228 bhp). Transmission is an 8-speed automatic from ZF, and the SUV gets an optional torque transfer case from BorgWarner—as an upgrade over the standard rear-wheel-drive setup.
The platform is developed by Magna Steyr, and the production will begin in 2019 at VinFast’s Hanoi plant.
