The new Ertiga was first unveiled at the 2018 Indonesia Motor Show in April. According to the company, it is built on the 5th generation ‘Heartect’ platform which enhances the vehicle’s safety and NVH performance. Apparently, the platform helps in effective absorption and dispersion of crash energy.
Exterior equipment includes halogen projector headlamps, front fog lamps, 3D tail lamps with LEDs, ORVM-integrated turn signals, and 15-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels.
The dual-tone interiors get faux wood trim on the dashboard that extends to the door pads. The wood trim can also be seen on the leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel. Other features include height adjustable driver seat, tilt adjustable steering wheel, color MID, auto AC, air-cooled cup holders, second row adjustable AC, day & night adjustable IRVM and rear defogger.
As for the infotainment, there is a 7-inch SmartPlay system which supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Voice Command and Bluetooth Connectivity. The vehicle is equipped with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters.
Moving on to the safety section, the new Ertiga is equipped with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX mounts, seat belt reminder for driver & co-driver, front seat belt pre-tensioner & force limiters, speed sensitive auto door lock, central locking, and high speed alert system as standard across all variants.
The automatic variants get ESP and Hill Hold feature as well. The top-spec Z variants get height adjustable front seat belt, and rear parking camera.
If you’re interested to know the dimensions, the new Ertiga measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,735 mm in width and 1,690 mm in height. Wheelbase measures 2,740 mm, same as before. The boot space measures 209 litres with all 3 rows up, 550 with the 3rd row folded down, and 803 litres with 2nd & 3rd row folded.
Powertrains
Which brings us to the business end of the story. Powering the new Ertiga is a 1.5-litre (1,462 cc) K15 petrol engine, developing 77 kW (103 bhp) @ 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of torque @ 4,400 rpm. Buyers have a choice of 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
The diesel variant packs the same DDiS 200 engine which is a 1,248 cc turbocharged 4-cylinder unit, producing 66 kW (88.5 bhp) @ 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque @ 1,750 rpm. Transmission is a 5-speed manual.
Both petrol and diesel variants are now “Smart Hybrid”, meaning they’re mild-hybrids. The technology offers engine auto start/stop function, brake energy regeneration and torque assist function.
