Well, not that nobody saw this coming, but apparently, it has been confirmed that the new Suzuki Jimny and new Swift Sport are not coming to India.
The reason as you might have guessed, is the volumes. In simple words, the Swift Sport isn’t going to sell as many as the regular Swift or Baleno, while the Jimny is more of a recreational vehicle and can’t be a primary/first car for many.
The Thar might be the segment leader in India but still doesn’t sell in big numbers and the Force Gurkha sales are almost negligible. Which is probably why Maruti doesn’t want to experiment again. Furthermore, bringing the Swift Sport and Jimny as CBU would make them way too expensive in India.
Add to the fact that the Polo GT, Abarth Punto and Baleno RS which are “hot hatches” in India, aren’t doing well either, in terms of sales.
But then, Maruti created the NEXA “premium” retail chain, and the company itself has an incredible dealer-service network in the country which has been a key criterion for buyers. Although the S-Cross 1.6 didn’t do well, it’s probably down to the boring looks of the car itself.
With the new Jimny and Swift Sport, MSIL might have a shot of NEXA really being a premium retail chain, because a lot of them seem to be waiting for the aforementioned cars.
