The Nissan Leaf is one of the most successful series production electric vehicles on sale in several international markets. The second generation model was revealed in September 2017 in the United States, and is gradually being introduced in the Southeast Asian markets as well.
Recently, Nissan showcased the new Leaf for the Thailand market. According to a media report, the EV will be introduced in India as well, this fiscal year.
The company has started working on homologation – a process of getting the vehicle approved by the official authorities of a particular country. Nissan India President Thomas Kuehl also revealed the company’s plans to bring a fleet of Leaf EVs for (media) test drives in Chennai, where the Renault-Nissan plant is located.

Since the Leaf is not expected to sell in big numbers, it’ll be a CBU (completely built-up) import, which means the pricing will be a challenge.
The Leaf EV is priced at $29,990 (around Rs 20.24 lakh) in US and it drops to $22,490 (around Rs 15.18 lakh) after federal tax credit.
As for the pricing for Indian market, will leave the imagination for you as you need to consider the steep taxes on CBU imports.
