[Update – Tata Nexon AMT launched at Rs 9.41 lakh]
Tata Motors has revealed the automatic variant of Nexon to the media. Dubbed as ‘HyprDrive S-SG’, the 6-speed Automated Manual Transmission is offered for both petrol and diesel engines.

The power and torque output of the petrol and diesel engines remain unchanged with the AMT. The 1.2L 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol produces 110 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque while the 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel delivers 110 PS and 260 Nm of torque.
As for the Multi-drive modes, the ECO and CITY modes are reserved for automatic driving while the SPORT mode is for ‘Tiptronic’ or manual shifting. The mode selector defaults to CITY.
Tata Motors said that the AMT features Intelligent Transmission Controller that aids in quick overtaking manoeuvres by downshifting gears and after making an overtake, maintains the power delivery to avoid jerks. The system also ensures that the vehicle doesn’t stall after a sudden braking and re-acceleration.
No further details have been revealed just yet, including the trims. However, the press kit mentions 16-inch machine-cut alloy wheels suggesting that the AMT or HyprDrive is offered on the top-spec XZ+ trim. Check back for any updates. Tata Nexon variant wise features here.
