As you might know, the Chinese automotive industry is notorious for copying popular vehicles from Europe. There’s a Porsche Macan copy and a Range Rover Evoque copy as well, just to name a few.

The state-owned BAIC Group has now copied the Mercedes-AMG G63 6×6 under the name ‘BJ80 6×6’. BAIC already has a G-Class look-alike in their portfolio named ‘BJ80’, and this is of course the 6×6 version of it.

While the side profile looks largely similar to the original, the front and rear get some obvious differences. The rear has a tailgate-mounted spare wheel à la G 650 Landaulet. Does that mean a Landaulet copy is coming too? No idea.

Interiors are pretty similar too, except that the infotainment system is integrated into the dashboard unlike the floating system of the original car. Notice the quilted leather (artificial?) seats as well.

The original G63 6×6 had a 5.5L V8 biturbo under the hood. The BJ80 6×6 on the other hand might be packing the same 250 hp 2.3L 4-cylinder turbo from the G-Class look-alike BJ80.

The BJ80 6×6 is expected to make its debut at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show.

Interestingly, BAIC Group is Daimler’s partner in China. The company owns over 50% of Beijing Benz.
