Kia made its official entry into the Indian market via Auto Expo 2018. The South Korean brand globally unveiled the SP Concept – a Creta-sized SUV which garnered a lot of attention at the Expo.
For those who don’t know, Hyundai owns nearly 34% stake in Kia. Which means the production version might share the platform and other bits from its parent company. Nonetheless, the concept looks really beautiful. No surprise there, as Kia’s designer is Peter Shreyer, who worked for VW group brands.
The concept neatly integrates Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grille, and there are futuristic looking LED lighting all around. The company wasn’t ready to showcase the interiors yet, but there was a sneak peek, where we could see a digital instrument cluster with floating infotainment system, rear AC vents and so on.
In Kia’s words, the concept has been “inspired by Indian heritage and driven by advanced technology.” The company aims to start its retail operations in India in the second half of 2019.
