The Suzuki Solio is a Wagon R based small car sold in Japan. The car has been spotted testing on Indian roads recently, which makes us believe that MSIL might introduce the Solio as a replacement for the ageing Wagon R in India.

Also, the 6th generation Wagon R which was unveiled in Japan a year ago, might not make it to the Indian market.

Adding to the speculation is that MSIL has announced to be showcasing a working model of the next generation Suzuki Hybrid system (HEV) that currently powers the Solio in Japan, at the 2018 Auto Expo. The company has plans to introduce hybrid vehicles in the country.

The Solio is sold in Japan as mild-hybrid and hybrid variants. The hybrid variant has a 10 kW (13 hp) Motor Generator Unit (MGU) that develops 32 Nm of torque, powered by a 100V lithium-ion battery. It also gets EV driving mode, and while travelling at about 24 km/h or less, the pedestrians are alerted by a sound.

The combustion engine is a 1,242 cc 4-cylinder petrol “K12C” unit, producing 91 PS @ 6,000 rpm and 118 Nm of torque @ 4,400 rpm. Transmission is a 5-Speed AGS, while the mild-hybrids are paired to a CVT. The mild-hybrids also get an option of full-time 4WD.

Safety equipment includes front and side airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, Dual Camera Brake Support, Lane departure warning, and more.
