The up! is Volkswagen’s tiny hatchback sold in the European and Brazilian markets. The 2018 model has got the GTI treatment both inside-out, and joins the GTI family of Golf and Polo. The up! GTI succeeds the original GTI of 1976.
The 1.0L 3-cylinder TSI motor produces 115 PS and an impressive 200 Nm of torque, enough to propel the tiny hot hatch from 0-100 km/h in 8.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 196 km/h. A 6-speed manual transmission sends power to the front wheels.
The exterior colours are once again classic and typical of a GTI: along with the monochrome colours Red and Pure White, the metallic colours Dark Silver and Black Pearl are also available. Wheels are 17-inch alloys. The car sits 15 mm lower.
The 2018 car retains the golf ball-style-knob of the 1976 GTI. Like the original model, the up! GTI’s seats also feature the famous “Clark” tartan check upholstery. Don’t miss that flat-bottom leather-wrapped sport steering wheel.
VW said that the large roof spoiler provides greater downforce on the rear axle and thus optimises handling characteristics.
Prices start at €16,975.
