Toyota will be showcasing the GR HV Sports concept at the Tokyo Motor Show 2017, later this month. The car gets design elements and technology from Toyota Gazoo Racing’s TS050 Hybrid, that competes in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

The concept features LED headlamps, aluminium wheels, and a rear diffuser similar to the TS050 Hybrid. The matte black body color expresses power and aggressiveness, said Toyota.

The car gets a targa top that pays homage to Toyota’s previous legends, the Sports 800 (a.k.a. Yotahachi) and the Supra.

As for the powertrain, not much information is available at the moment, but Toyota said that the GR HV is powered by THS-R (Toyota Hybrid System-Racing), the technology found in the TS050 Hybrid.

Interiors get race car like ambience, and probably the coolest part is the gear knob where you have to flip up the red cover for ignition. A place where James Bond finds the seat ejector button. Speaking of the transmission, the car is an automatic, and can be switched to manual mode with a press of a button. Perhaps the most exciting bit is the 6-speed manual-style H-pattern on the knob.

The hybrid battery is mounted near the center of vehicle. Engine is at the front and the power is sent to the rear wheels.

“The GR HV Sports concept represents a new way to enjoy cars by integrating the thrill of a sports car with the environmental friendliness of an eco-car,” said Toyota. More information is expected in due course.
