Presenting the further developed electric concept I.D. Crozz and announcing the future plans at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, Volkswagen said that the brand will be expanding its electric car range – initially with three models from 2020.
Herbert Diess, Chairman, said: “We will be thoroughly updating our vehicle range by 2020 and expanding into important segments. In 2025 Volkswagen Brand will already be offering 23 all-electric models and invest 6 billion euros in electric mobility over the next five years. In this process, the different drive technologies will continue to have currency for many years to come. It makes sense for diesel, petrol and electric drives to mutually complement one another.”
As for the I.D. Crozz, the four-door electric crossover has an output of 225 kW (302 hp) and 500 kilometres (NEDC) range on a single charge. It comes with 4Motion all-wheel drive system. One electric motor is at the front axle and one at the rear, and torque distribution is controlled via an ‘electric propshaft’. With the fast-charging system, 80% of the charge can be achieved in 30 minutes.
VW said that the interiors have been further developed, and is equipped with a new voice assistant, which enables opening and closing of the doors via voice command.
