Big wave surfer Sebastian Steudtner will be carrying his surfboard in the new Mercedes-Benz X-Class pickup truck from now on. The 32-year-old German made his first appearance in his new role at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt.
Unveiled in South Africa in July, the X-Class is built on the third-generation Nissan Navara (NP300) platform. It is built at the Nissan plant in Barcelona, Spain.
“By appointing Sebastian Steudtner, one of the world’s best big wave surfers, we are strengthening our ties with the world of surfing. As a two-time winner of the ‘XXL biggest wave award’, Sebastian Steudtner enjoys an international profile. This makes him the perfect ambassador for our new X-Class, whose core markets not only include Europe and Latin America but also keen surfing countries such as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa,” said Sonja Schneemann, Head of Marketing Communications and Operations Mercedes-Benz Vans.
The European market launch is scheduled for November 2017. South Africa, Australia and New Zealand in early 2018, Argentina and Brazil in early 2019. Priced at €37,294 in Germany (including 19% VAT).
