This is the Genesis G70, unveiled at the Hyundai Design Center in Namyang. For those who didn’t know, Genesis is a luxury brand of Hyundai, similar to what Lexus means to Toyota or Infiniti to Nissan. But, compared to those Japanese which are almost three decades old, Genesis is a new one.
The Genesis G70 is an entry-level luxury sedan that will take on the likes of BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and Mercedes C-Class. It shares the underpinnings with the Kia Stinger which made its debut at the 2017 NAIAS.
In terms of design, the G70 is equally impressive as the Kia. Luc Donckerwolke and Peter Schreyer, who previously worked for VW Group brands, have given the G70 an elegant styling.
There are 10 exterior colors to choose from: Platinum Silver, Carbon Metal, Marble White, Titanium Black, Racing Gray, Graceful Gray, Lapis Blue, Royal Blue, Blazing Red and Umber Brown.
Interiors
An equally impressive passenger cabin is available in five colors: Obsidian Black, Sandstorm Gray, Velvet Burgundy, Tobacco Brown and Vanilla Beige. Two additional interior colors – Sports Gray and Sports Red are dedicated to the G70 Sport and the 2.0T top-spec trim.
Genesis designers employed premium materials throughout, including aluminum door handles, quilted leather door panels, metal speaker grills and high-quality soft-touch surfaces. Nappa leather seats further add to the elegant interior.
Features wise, there is an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, 15-speaker Lexicon surround-sound system, and posture control system.
The G70 will also be the first vehicle in Korea to feature server-based voice recognition technology, using Kakao’s artificial intelligence platform ‘Kakao I’.
Powertrain
There are three engine choices with RWD and AWD configurations. The 370 PS 3.3-litre V6 gasoline turbo, 252 PS 2.0-litre gasoline turbo and a 202 PS 2.2-litre diesel VGT. The 3.3-litre V6 turbo is the one in the enthusiast-focused G70 Sport. Transmission is an 8-speed automatic.
Performance features include launch control, Dynamic torque vectoring system, and Mechanical limited-slip differential (M-LSD).
As for the safety features, there is Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Highway Driving Assist (HDA), Blind spot Collision Warning (BCW) and Driver Awareness Warning (DAW).
