Renault’s hot hatch Megane R.S. made its debut in its third generation at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Bookings will be open for the European markets in December 2017.
The new Megane R.S. incorporates numerous cues from the world of motorsport. It features wider tracks and sits on new 18- or 19-inch wheels. Air intakes are wider for efficient engine cooling and the rear lip spoiler has been redesigned to generate additional downforce. Don’t miss the F1-style front blade and fog lamp design.
Also, the new Megane R.S. is Renault’s first production car to feature the new Renault Sport badging. A new body color – Tonic Orange has been added to the palette.
The Interior comes with sports seats with integrated headrests, a charcoal grey trim, red top-stitching, fabric or Alcantara upholstery, and R.S. badging. There is also Renault’s Multi-Sense system which gives drivers a choice of five driving modes: Comfort, Normal, Sport, Race and Perso. It also comes with a suite of driver aids (ADAS) that can be activated or switched off using the R-Link 2 tablet.
There is also an onboard telemetry technology, which has been upgraded to incorporate an ‘Expert’ mode that allows users to connect a camera, film their drive, playback and analyze their data, and share their images on social media.
Powertrain
The 2.0-litre turbo petrol has been let go and taking its place is the 1.8-litre (1,798cc) turbocharged 4-cylinder unit, which makes 279 hp (205 kW) at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 390 Nm. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed EDC dual-clutch with paddle shifters. The 1.8L motor is the same unit we saw in the Alpine 110. Also new is the segment first 4CONTROL four-wheel steering.
For those who want more, Renault Sport will be introducing a 300 hp ‘Trophy’ version of the new Megane R.S. at the end of 2018.
