Jaguar has taken the camouflage off the new XF Sportbrake, the estate version of the second-generation XF. Available in five trims – Pure, Prestige, Portfolio, R-Sport, and S. While it is available both in RWD and AWD configurations, the petrol AWD is exclusive for China.
The new design gets a drag coefficient of just 0.29 Cd. Since it’s an estate, it’s a good idea to start with the boot capacity. The 565 litres of boot space expands up to 1,700 litres with the rear seats folding completely flat.
As with all the latest Jaguars, the interiors get a 10-inch Touch Pro infotainment system, which according to Jaguar, “acts as your on-board digital butler”. Other features include cabin air filtration & ionization, panoramic glass roof with gesture control, and gesture tailgate with Jaguar’s wearable waterproof Activity Key — the same one we saw in the F-Pace.
Powertrain
There are four engines on offer, two petrol and two diesel, available both in RWD and AWD configurations. However, the petrol AWD is exclusive for the Chinese market.
Diesel
- 163 PS 2.0-litre diesel manual and automatic; RWD
- 180 PS 2.0-litre diesel automatic; RWD and AWD
- 240 PS 2.0-litre diesel automatic; AWD
- 300 PS 3.0-litre V6 diesel automatic; RWD
Petrol
- 250 PS 2.0-litre petrol automatic; RWD and AWD
- 380 PS 3.0-litre V6 petrol automatic; AWD
The 3.0L supercharged V6 is only available in the US, China and MENA, not in the UK and EU.
Speaking of the transmission, the entry-level diesel gets a 6-speed manual, while the rest of them get an 8-speed ZF automatic.
All Surface Progress Control (ASPC), Adaptive Surface Response (ASR) and Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) are there to assist the driver in low-grip situations and cornering ability.
Jaguar says that the new XF Sportbrake is stiffer and lighter than before, thanks to the aluminium-intensive body construction. The car features an innovative single-piece polymer tailgate, helping in a near perfect 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution.
Dimensions
Measuring 4,955 mm, the new Sportbrake is 6 mm shorter than the previous model, but its wheelbase has been lengthened by 51 mm to 2,960 mm, which translates into better rear legroom and load space.
“As with the XF saloon, every line on the Sportbrake serves a clear purpose, creating a fast sweeping silhouette. This gives the car a sense of speed and a very dynamic appearance. As a result, I think it looks just as sporty as the saloon, if not more so,” said Ian Callum, Design Director, Jaguar.
Priced at £34,910 in the UK for 163 PS 2.0L diesel Prestige manual.
