Mercedes-Benz Brazil has delivered 524 trucks to Raizen, one of the largest energy companies in Brazil owned by Royal Dutch Shell. The trucks are a mix of Atego and Axor series with 6×4 off-road capability, the hand over will go until September 2017.
“Performance, reliability and latest digital technologies were crucial for the decision to purchase”, said the company in an official statement. The trucks are equipped with the telematics system ‘FleetBoard’, which is claimed to minimize maintenance time by offering an analysis of vehicle performance, consumption as well as driver behavior.
The Atego series comes with different configurations and capacities, including 4×2, 4×4, 6×2, 6×4 and 8×2. The 6×4 variant comes with a 7.2 litre inline-six OM 926 engine, with an output of 282 hp and 1,120 Nm of torque, paired to an 8-Speed manual transmission.
The Axor off-road series comes with 6×4 configuration, and is powered by the same 7.2 litre inline-six OM 926 engine. However, the output is more with 306 hp and 1,200 Nm of torque, paired to a 16-Speed Semi-automated transmission.
“Despite the continuously difficult economic situation and declining commercial vehicle markets in the past years, Mercedes-Benz Brasil was once again able to strengthen its leading position in the Brazilian truck market in the first quarter of 2017. At the end of March 2017 the market share of the truck with star was 29.8 percent”, added the statement.
