We all know the Indians’ love for Marutis, which is why the company has over 47% market share. Looking at the official sales figures, it appears that Maruti has eaten into the sales of Mahindra’s core business, the Utility Vehicles. Which means, Maruti’s market share is only expected to ‘rise’.
From January to May 2017 (YTD May), Maruti has sold a total of 43,246 Utility Vehicles, which comprises of Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross and Vitara Brezza. Mahindra on the other hand has sold 37,694 UVs. For the month of May 2017, Maruti sold 22,608 UVs, compared to 19,331 UVs from Mahindra. Click on the images to zoom into the official figures. Mahindra’s May 2017 sales figures below.
Even in April 2017, Maruti was ahead of Mahindra in UV sales. Maruti sold 20,638 UVs compared to 18,363 UVs from Mahindra.
Maruti’s big numbers in UV business is all thanks to the huge demand for Vitara Brezza. The compact SUV has clocked over 110,000 units in the first year of its launch.
