Mercedes-Benz India has launched the S-Class ‘Connoisseur’s Edition’, priced at Rs 1.21 Crore for the S 350 d, and Rs 1.32 Crore for the S 400, all prices ex-showroom, Pune.
The Connoisseur’s Edition adds few more features over the regular S-Class. These include Night View Assist Plus for enhanced driving safety at night, Executive rear left seat with extended thigh support and seat reclination up to 43.5 degrees, Air-Balance perfume package with air ionization and 3 Stage memory function for the electric front seats.
The Night View Assist Plus is being offered for the first time in S-Class in India. Merc says, the technology enables drivers to detect pedestrians or larger animals sooner in the dark. They are clearly highlighted in the cockpit display. To do this, the system illuminates the road ahead with two anti-dazzle infrared lamps. With the help of an infrared camera located behind the windscreen, the entire area within high-beam headlamp range is shown as a crystal-clear greyscale image. A thermal imaging camera in the radiator grille is able to give a precise warning by distinguishing between irrelevant objects such as traffic sign combinations or bushes and relevant objects such as pedestrians or large animals. The spotlight function enables endangered pedestrians to be flashed at several times, so that the driver registers them even more quickly and the former recognize the danger. As standard, the night view image only appears automatically when a hazardous situation is recognized.
As for the Executive rear left seat, Merc says, a cushion bag improves occupant protection when the seat backrest is heavily reclined. In the event of a frontal collision, the cushion bag deploys under the seat cushion and prevents the occupant from sliding beneath the seat belt (submarining).
Rest of the features has been carried over from the regular S-Class, including Burmester Surround Sound System and Hot Stone Massage.
No mechanical changes under the hood. The S 350 d comes powered by a 3.0 litre V6 diesel, producing an output of 258 hp @ 3600 rpm and 620 Nm of torque @ 1600 – 2400 rpm. The S 400 on the other side is powered by a 3.0 litre V6 petrol, producing 333 hp of power @ 5250 – 6000 rpm and 480 Nm of torque @ 1600 – 4000 rpm. Both engines are paired to a 7-Speed auto. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h.
