Tata Motors have commenced pre-bookings for its ambitious project – the Tigor, across all authorized dealerships for a deposit of Rs 5000. Tata is betting big on the Tigor, thanks to its styling which looks like nothing else in the sub-4 meter segment.
The Tigor ‘Styleback’ is the third product from Tata Motors to adapt the IMPACT design language after Tiago and Hexa, and the company is confident that the design will make it a unique market proposition. So far, we know most of the details of the vehicle, if not everything.
Engines & Transmission
The Tigor will share the engines from its hatch sibling – the Tiago. On the petrol side, there is a 1.2 litre 3-cylinder Revotron, with an output of 85 PS (84 hp) @ 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque @ 3,500 rpm. The diesel is a 1.05 litre 3-cylinder Revotorq motor, producing 70 PS (69 hp) @ 4,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque @ 1,800 – 3,000 rpm. Numbers are same as the Tiago. There are Eco and City driving modes as well. Both engines are paired to a 5-Speed manual, and an AMT is expected at a later point of time.
Features
There will be Harman ConnectNext touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, voice command, 4 speakers & 4 tweeters, reversing camera, automatic AC, rear seat armrest and lots of storage spaces, similar to the Tiago.
Safety
Safety features will include dual front airbags, ABS + EBD.
Dimensions
The Tigor measures 3,992 mm in length, 1,677 mm in width and 1,537 mm in height. Wheelbase measures at 2,450 mm and ground clearance is at 170 mm. Fuel tank can carry 35 litres.
Interestingly, there are different wheel sizes for petrol and diesel. While the petrol rides on 15-inch alloy wheels shod with 175/60 tyres, diesel gets 14-inch alloys shod with 175/65 tyres.
The Tigor is styled like a fastback, but the boot doesn’t open like one. It opens like a conventional sedan, but there’s a unique feature called 4 bar mechanism, which allows a class leading boot space of 419 litres.
Incase if you haven’t seen the Geneva Edition Tigor, here it is. It looks really hot!
Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said. “Denoting the IMPACT design language, best-in-class driving features and an advance infotainment system, the Tata Tigor Styleback is a clear and exciting harbinger of future vehicles from Tata Motors, set to disrupt the passenger car market in India. We have received an overwhelming response for the Tigor Styleback in its very first week of preview. We hope our customers enjoy the experience of our Styleback.”
