Dodge has revealed the 2018 Durango SRT, claiming it to be “America’s Fastest, Most Powerful and Most Capable Three-Row SUV”. The 4th generation Durango does 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in just 4.4 seconds, making it faster than some of the two-door sports cars. The three-row SUV also holds a National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) certified quarter-mile time of 12.9 seconds. The SUV also claims be having the best-in-class towing capability of 8,600 lbs (3,900 kg).

All this performance comes courtesy of a massive 6.4-litre HEMI V8 petrol engine, which is also shared with the Cherokee SRT, producing 354 kW (481 hp) at 6000 rpm and 637 Nm (470 lb-ft) of torque at 4300 rpm, paired with a TorqueFlite (torque converter) 8-speed automatic transmission. The 2018 Durango SRT comes with 7 driving modes – Auto, Sport, Track, Snow, Tow, Valet, and Eco.

In Sport mode, shift times reduce by up to 50% compared to the Auto mode, and delivers up to 65% torque to the rear wheels. In track mode, shifts will happen in 160-milliseconds, with 70% torque sent to rear wheels. In Snow and Tow mode, torque is distributed 50/50. In Valet mode, the engine is remapped to mimic the Dodge Charger V6 engine’s torque and horsepower settings, transmission locks out access to first gear, and upshifts earlier than normal. Traction, steering and suspension are set to their Auto settings, and paddle shifters are disabled. ESC is enabled to Full-on and launch control is disabled. Yes, the Durango SRT features launch control as well.

Durango’s Active Damping System opens and closes the suspension’s damper valves, based on the chosen driving mode.
