Not too long ago we saw the Tata Kite 5 in its production guise, now the latest news involving the Tiago based compact sedan is that the official launch will take place sometime in March, according to media reports.
Apparently the launch was supposed to take place this month, but was postponed to March because the dealer network wasn’t equipped enough to cater to new launches. Which could also mean that the dealers are busy dealing with the recently launched Hexa.
The “Kite 5” is a codename, and the manufacturer is yet to reveal the actual name. Media reports speculate it could be either Tata Viago or Tata Altigo. Tata Kite 5 is claimed to offer a class leading boot space of 420 litres. Also, the compact sedan has won CII Design Excellence Awards for the year 2016.
As the compact sedan is based on the Tiago hatchback, it’ll carry the IMPACT design language along with the powerplants from its hatchback sibling. The 1.2 litre 3 cylinder Revotron petrol producing 85 PS @ 6000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque @ 3500 rpm. The diesel is 1.05 litre 3 cylinder Revotorq, producing 70 PS @ 4000 rpm and 140 Nm @ 1800 – 3000 rpm. These figures could change for the Kite 5. Both engines are paired to a 5 Speed manual transmission. Expect an AMT transmission option as well. The compact sedan will take on the likes of Maruti DZire, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Xcent.
