Country’s leading utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra is working on a Fortuner rival, which is based on the SSangYong LIV-2 (Limitless Interface Vehicle) Concept, which made it debut at 2016 Paris Motor Show. According to a report from Autocar, the aforementioned SUV is nothing but the next generation Rexton (codenamed Y400), and is expected to be unveiled in India late 2017. The company also wants to drop the name SSangYong as the brand failed to establish in India, and launch the SUV under Mahindra brand making necessary design changes, such as giving it the Mahindra family face grille.
The report also states that this new SUV from Mahindra will be cheaper than the segment leader Fortuner by around Rs 4 – 5 lakh. The production ready Y400 is expected to be unveiled globally at the Seoul motor show in March 2017 sporting a local name.
