Just when everyone thought Lamborghini dropped the idea of Urus, there are some fresh reports on the internet. For those who have never heard, the Lamborghini Urus is an SUV concept, which made its first appearance over 4 years ago at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show and disappeared from the automotive scene up until recently. The men at Lamborghini seem to have been working hard, silently, to put the SUV on the market by 2018.
According to a report from Autocar UK, Lamborghini R&D chief Maurizio Reggiani has confirmed the Urus SUV range will feature the brand’s first plug-in hybrid, to be offered alongside the 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 variant. Turbocharging a Lambo for the first time!
The Urus will share the same platform as Bentley Bentayga and Audi Q7, which is MLB-evo, and will also feature 48V-powered active anti-roll suspension. Reggiani says turbocharging the Urus is mandatory because as an SUV it needs huge torque. He also says the Urus will be offered both in two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive variants.
Interestingly, Urus is not the first SUV from Lamborghini. The company had produced the LM002 SUV back in 1986, which had a 444 hp 5.2-litre V12 with 5-speed manual transmission. There was another variant with a 7.2-litre V12 marine engine as well.
