Hindustan Motor Finance Corporation Ltd (HMFCL), the Indian partner for Mitsubishi Motors has launched the updated 2016 Montero SUV in India at Rs 67.88 lakh, ex-showroom, Mumbai. The SUV which is also known as Pajero (not to be confused with Pajero Sport) in some international markets, was taken off the Indian market in 2014 due to poor sales.
The updated 2016 Montero is available only in a single GLS trim, and packs a 3.2 litre 4 Cyl turbocharged diesel engine, producing 192 ps @ 3800 rpm and 441 Nm of torque @ 2000 rpm. Transmission is taken care by Mitsubishi’s own INVECS-II 5-Speed automatic with sports mode. Power is transferred to all 4 wheels via Mitsubishi’s popular “Super Select 4WD II” four wheel drive system.
The SUV measures 4900 mm in length, 1875 mm in width and 1,870 mm (1,900 mm with roof rails) in height. Wheelbase is measured at 2780 mm, and ground clearance is at 235 mm.
Feature list include Center Multi Information display (MID), automatic air con, Power tilt and sliding sunroof with anti trapping function, 10 Way power adjustable driver seat, rain sensing wipers, power windows with time delay and drivers auto down function, and 860W Rockford music system with 12 speakers with bluetooth telephony.
Safety kit include Active Stability and Traction control with Brake Assist, Multi Mode ABS + EBD, dual front airbags, front seat side and curtain airbags, automatic highbeam system and parking sensors.
The Montero has a max climbing capacity of 350. Approach angle and departure angle is at 36.60 and 250 respectively. Turning radius is measured at 5.7 m.
The SUV comes with AWC (All Wheel Control) technology, which the company says will deliver precise traction, power and slip control for each wheel independently to ensure complete driver control even in extreme handling conditions.
Here’s a fun fact – the word “Pajero” is an abusive word/slang in Spanish meaning “wanker” or “tosser”, thus an alternative name “Montero” (mountain hunter) in certain markets. In UK the SUV is known as Mitsubishi Shogun. In India though, there’s already Pajero Sport, thus perhaps “Montero”.
There are 7 colors to choose from – Warm White Mica, White Solid, Black Mica, Eiger Gray Metallic, Cool Silver Metallic, Deep Bronze Metallic and Platinum Beige Metallic.
