The Ford EcoSport has been reportedly confirmed to go on sale in the US market. The car is all set to make its public appearance at 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show next week (Nov 14th). Looking at the spyshots, it appears to be carrying some 4WD hardware too.
Since the car was last spotted testing in US months ago, it is still unclear whether US will get the current EcoSport model that’s on sale in India, or the upcoming facelift which is in its final testing phase. US will most likely get the Euro spec version. The compact crossover is currently being assembled in Brazil, India, Thailand, and in Russia, but it’s not yet confirmed from which of these plants the car will enter US market.
Ford EcoSport for US might get a turbocharged 1.0 litre 3 cylinder engine from the EcoBoost family, and naturally aspirated 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0 litre gasoline engine options. Diesel will most likely be the 1.5 litre TDCi. Most of them will send the power to the front axle, but its the 2.0 litre variant that is expected to come with all wheel drive hardware.
Ford is currently testing the facelifted EcoSport and it has been spotted at various locations, the recent being in Brazil. The facelifted model will go on sale in India sometime next year, and there’s no information yet whether India will get a 4WD option. But looking at the vehicle’s popularity here, Ford might consider it.
