BMW has unveiled 1 Series sedan at the 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show. Remember, this sedan is exclusive for China, and has been developed in collaboration with BMW’s Chinese partner – BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd.
The company calls it “the first compact sports sedan” under the BMW brand. The smallest sedan from Bavaria will take on the likes of Mercedes CLA and Audi A3 sedan. According to Chinese media reports, The 1 Series Sedan is developed on BMW’s UKL (Untere Klasse, lower class in German) platform, and is expected to go on sale in China early next year.
The sedan measures 4,456 mm in length, 1,803 mm in width and 1,446 mm in height. Wheelbase measures at 2,670 mm. Exterior features include LED headlamps, double five-spoke wheels.
Interiors are a typical BMW with full-color Head-Up Display, 8.8-inch LED central screen, BMW iDrive system, electronic parking brake, Comfort, Sport, Eco Pro driving mode selection, panoramic sunroof, 40:20:40 folding rear seats, automatic tailgate and so on.
Powering the 1 Series Sedan are choice of 1.5- and 2.0-litre TwinPower turbo petrol engines. While the 1.5-litre engine produces 136 hp and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, the 2.0-litre produces 231 hp and is mated to an 8-speed steptronic transmission. Fuel saving features such as Brake Energy Regeneration, Auto Start/Stop and engine coasting makes it to the 1 Series Sedan. The 1 Series Sedan has been tuned and optimized for Chinese climatic conditions and driving habits.
The car also features run-flat tires (segment-first), Lane Departure Warning, Collision Warning and Pedestrian Warning. Emergency Assistance function available as a standard feature. The company will be launching BMW Connected APP in China which integrates all functions in one application.
