Toyota has trademarked “Supra” moniker in Europe, fueling the speculation of a legendary name making a comeback. Discovered by supramkv.com, the trademark’s filing date is 03/06/2016 at European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and comes at more than two years after Toyota registered the iconic name with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Feb 10th, 2014. According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the application covers “Automobiles and structural parts thereof.”
Industry experts believe that this could be the sign, Toyota really does have plans to bring back the legendary moniker for that new sports car which is currently being co-developed with BMW, and reportedly the design will draw cues from FT-1 concept unveiled on January 2014 at the Detroit Motor Show.
The trademark’s classification (established by the Nice Agreement 1957, as system of classifying goods and services for the purpose of registering trademarks) is “Class 12” which is “Vehicles; apparatus for locomotion by land, air or water”, and experts believe that this is indeed a strong sign of the legendary name making a comeback.
