Import data from Zauba confirms that Toyota India (Toyota Kirloskar Motor) has imported 1 unit of Lexus ES300H sedan for certification purpose.
With the diesel ban in Delhi-NCR region affecting sales, automakers are considering other options. Just to remind, BMW recently re-launched the 5 Series petrol. Not to mention the tax benefits on EV and Hybrids, its probably a good time for Toyota to introduce the Lexus brand. There were reports earlier this year in Feb, that Toyota will introduce Lexus brand in India sometime in August, now the import data seem to confirm the same.
The Lexus ES300H features a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.5 liter 4 Cyl petrol engine and an electric motor that together send 200 horsepower to the front wheels. Transmission is taken care by a CVT, and the vehicle is claimed to deliver a city-highway combined fuel efficiency of 40 mpg (17 km/l). Considering the Camry Hybrid price which costs almost Rs 40 lakhs (on-road) in India, one can safely say, the ES300H’s price will put it in the E-Class, 5 Series and Audi A6 territory.
