Iconic British luxury brand Rolls-Royce launches the Dawn convertible in India at Rs 6.25 Crores, ex-showroom, Mumbai. This is the second convertible to be launched in India from Rolls-Royce after Phantom Drophead Coupé. First unveiled at 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Dawn is essentially a convertible version of the Wraith Coupé. However, the manufacturer claims that the Dawn shares very less design elements/body work from the Wraith, as less as 20%.
As one would expect from a hand-built British luxury car, customers can have their Dawn tailored to their individual tastes, with variety of wood, leather and several other customization options.
Few key features of Rolls-Royce Dawn include a bespoke audio system with 16 speakers, 10.25” infotainment system, cruise control, roll-over protection system and many more. The company claims that the car can be driven on a deflated tyre for about 160km at speeds up to 80km/h before needing a replacement, and the car will still have remarkable levels of control. Rolls-Royce says the inclusion of runflat tyre technology removes the need for a spare wheel and jack, freeing up space in the luggage compartment. Rolls-Royce says the Dawn’s suspension has been configured for a “magic carpet ride” experience.
Dawn’s roof can be operated within 22 seconds, and at speeds of upto 50km/h. The company claims that the Dawn is the most silent convertible in the world.
Powerplant
The Dawn is powered by a 6.6 litre twin turbo V12 engine producing 563 bhp @ 5,250 rpm and 780 Nm of torque @ 1,500 rpm, and is mated to 8-speed ZF gearbox. The car has a Satellite Aided Transmission, similar to the one in the Wraith. The technology utilizes GPS data, anticipating driver’s next move based on location and driving style, and engages the most appropriate gear. The Dawn measures 5285 mm in length, 1947 mm in width and 1502 mm in height. Wheelbase measures at 3112 mm and boot measures at 244 – 295 litres. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h and 0-100 happens in 4.9 seconds. Fuel consumption is claimed at 21.4 litres/100 km in urban conditions, and CO2 emissions are measured at 330g/km.
At Rs 6.25 Crores, the Rolls-Royce Dawn is the most expensive convertible sold in India, and the only rival to the car is Bentley Continental GT Convertible, which has more-or-less Rs 4 Crore ex-showroom price tag. Gallery here
