Bugatti has taken the wraps off the Veyron’s successor, the Chiron at the ongoing 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The Chiron is powered by a heavily re-worked 8.0 litre DOHC 64-valve quad-turbo W16 engine from Veyron which now produces 1,479 bhp @ 6,700 rpm and almost 1,600 Nm (1,165 lb-ft) of torque @ 2,000 to 6,000 rpm. Yes you read that right. 1,600 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 7 speed dual clutch automatic gearbox, which is also a reworked version from Veyron and an updated permanent four-wheel drive system. The turbos are 30% bigger than those of the Veyron.

The Chiron will do 0-60 mph in less than 2.5 secs and the top speed has been electronically limited to 261 mph (420 kmh approx).

The tyres are now 14% wider at the front and 10% wider at the rear, measuring 285/30 R20 at front and 355/25 R21 at the rear, developed specially for the Chiron by Michelin. Now looking at those numbers, you already know they are wrapped to 20″ wheels up front and 21″ at the rear. The front and rear discs are now 20 mm larger and 2 mm thicker, measuring 16.5 inch/420 mm at front and 15.7 inches/400 mm at the rear, and are made from carbon silicon carbide – a material that’s both lighter and more resistant to wear and tear. They are gripped by calipers with eight titanium pistons at the front, and six at the rear.

The Chiron features Adaptive Chassis suspension and has 5 different driving modes. Lift (to go over speed bumps, or load onto a trailer), Auto (default mode), Autobahn (for high-speed stability), Handling (track purposes) and Top Speed (activated by a second key to raise the limiter from 380 kph to 420 kph – carried over from Veyron), each an individual blend of settings for the chassis height, dampers, steering weight, torque distribution from the 4WD system, active aero and the electronic stability system.

The cooling is of course the biggest challenge for the Chiron. There are two cooling water loops (high temp for engine and low temp for charge air cooling) and 10 radiators in total, including one each for engine oil, transmission oil, and rear differential oil. Last but not the least, the Chiron weighs 1995 kg. Thanks to the carbon monocoque chassis and carbonfibre construction.

Only 500 units will be built and around 150 customers have already placed the orders which means the first two years’ production is already sold out. BTW, enjoy some photos below shared by Bugatti.
