Volkswagen unveiled its second generation Tiguan (Pronounced TEE-gwan) SUV at Auto Expo 2016. It’ll go on sale in India next year. Based on the famous MQB platform, the Tiguan will take on Fortuner, Endevour and Trailblazer. And it will be assembled in India most probably at VW’s Aurangabad facility.
The new Tiguan is 50Kg lighter, 60mm longer and 30mm wider than the original. Wheelbase has been stretched as well. VW most likely to offer 2.0L diesel mated to 7 speed DSG to India. The new Tiguan features fifth-gen Haldex-based 4Motion AWD system, that distributes torque to each wheel as needed, and it now comes with a center console mounted knob which has 4 modes – (Onroad, Snow, Offroad, Offroad Individual).
Other features include a touchscreen infotainment system which supports gesture control. It also gets Mirror Link, Android Auto and Car Play. Safety features include Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring, Lane Assist and the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System as standard.
