Europe’s best selling EV, the Renault Zoe has got a new R110 electric motor for the 2018 model year. The Zoe will be the first Renault EV to feature this 80 kW powerplant which combines extra power with a promise of even greater driving enjoyment.
Despite being the same size and weight as the R90, the R110 produces 12 kW (16 hp) more than its predecessor. The official numbers of the new motor are 80 kW (109 hp) and 225 Nm (166 lb-ft) of torque. Renault said that the new motor is an evolution of the R90, developed in just two years. It is made in France at the Cléon plant in Normandy and was designed by engineers working out of the Renault Technocentre, southwest of Paris, as well as in Cléon.
As for the performance, Renault said that the new motor “shaves almost 2 seconds off Zoe’s 80-120 km/h time”. The R110 Zoe sprints from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 11.4 seconds, and onto a top speed of 135 km/h (84 mph).
On-board power is a 41 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which is good for an approximate range of 300 km (187 mi) as per initial assessments.
The new R110 takes the number of Renault electric motors to five (44 kW/60 hp, 57 kW/77 hp, 60 kW/81 hp, 68 kW/92 hp and 80 kW/109 hp), and will be available for Kangoo Z.E., Master Z.E., and Daimler’s Smart Electric Drive as well.
Android Auto-enabled R-LINK Evolution is now available for Zoe, which means drivers will be able to display driving-compatible Android applications stored on their smartphone (including Waze, Deezer, Spotify, TuneIn, Skype, Messenger, Audible and many others available from Google Play Store) on their car’s multimedia screen.
The 2018 model year Zoe range features a new, dark, Blueberry Purple metallic body color. The high-end INTENS version can be specified with the new exclusive Blueberry Purple Pack which combines a purple exterior with a violet satin finish for the dashboard trim strip and air vent, gear lever base, loudspeaker surrounds, contrast stitching along with black and violet fabric upholstery.
Order books for Zoe equipped with the new R110 motor, Android Auto compatibility and Violet Blueberry Pack will open in France in March 2018.
